Dragon Capsule 3-D Printed Desk Lamp
This project was part of a Product Design course where we had to choose a company to design and 3-D Print a desk widget for. The Dragon Capsule is a vehicle that is launched into space by a private space taxiing company called Space X. It currently runs resupply missions to the ISS, however no human flight has been approved yet (we have to wait for Dragon V2 for that). The Dragon V1 had to be captured by the robotic arm on the ISS funded by the Canadian Space Agency. So I thought it would be a great idea to model a desk lamp out of the capsule and the arm grasping it. Pictured below is a slide show of the last iteration redesign and a printed model of the very first iteration design. Some improvements were made including a rotating lamp head and an adjustable tilt mechanism.
As you can see, I made the light completely functional with some LED's, a switch, a 9V battery, and some resistors. My long term goal is to actually make this out of more robust materials and make the solar panels on the capsule functional to recharge a battery.
